There are many different kinds of wind turbine designs, made of many different kinds of wind turbine parts. Especially on large-scale installations, aerodynamic modeling is done beforehand to determine the optimal tower height, control system, blade type, as well as the number of blades.
Typical wind turbines are made up of three components: the rotor components, the generator component, and the structural support components. The rotor component mainly refers to the blades, while the generator component includes the electrical generator, the control electronics, and whatever kind of gearbox used to adjust the speed. The structural support component, finally, is simply the tower and the rotor yaw mechanism.
Wind turbine technology continues to develop, and today’s turbines are made of light and compact parts that are easy to install, pleasing on the eye, and quiet. Installation costs vary, but a home wind turbine usually pays for itself after several years if you are thinking of it as a long-term investment.
